The Morrison Government is focused on delivering affordable and reliable electricity for Australian families and businesses.
The Snowy 2.0 project will help reduce volatility in the electricity market, support reliability and help to bring down rising electricity costs.
The NSW Government has now confirmed planning approval for the Snowy 2.0 Main Works.
Minister for Energy and Emissions Reduction, Angus Taylor said Snowy 2.0 will provide vital energy storage in the National Electricity Market to firm the increasing amounts of intermittent power sources.
“This announcement marks another important step in the development of Snowy 2.0,” Minister Taylor said.
“Snowy 2.0 will provide an additional 2,000 megawatts of fast-start, dispatchable energy and provide 350,000 megawatt hours of large-scale storage, enough to power the equivalent of 500,000 homes for over a week during peak demand.”
Senator for New South Wales Jim Molan said Snowy 2.0 will continue Snowy Hydro’s legacy of economic contribution.
“The project will create up to 2,000 jobs in construction and support up to 5,000 direct and indirect jobs across the Snowy Mountains region,” Senator Molan said.
“Snowy 2.0 will also help provide much needed support for local businesses as well as creating indirect jobs across the region.”
The environmental assessment will now be considered by the Federal Government.
