Premises in the suburbs of Aberglasslyn, Rutherford and Thornton in Paterson are now eligible to order an upgrade of their NBN connection at no upfront cost to access the fastest speeds available on the NBN.
Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher, said this would support residents of the region, whether that be families or those working from home or local businesses.
“This is an important milestone in delivering our $4.5 billion NBN network enhancements, and we are pleased to see these upgrades begin at scale. This will provide residents of the Paterson with the opportunity to upgrade to ultra-fast broadband speeds of up to 1 Gigabit speeds,” Minister Fletcher said.
“Blazing fast broadband speeds like this will enable businesses to access greater productivity gains and access to new markets, and families can enjoy the use of multiple devices, including working and learning from home.”
Senator for New South Wales Jim Molan said they were pleased to see NBN Co making further investments in its network in the region.
“As our community continues to get access to more choices for high and ultrafast broadband through the NBN. This investment will give households more choice, and help produce wider economic opportunities for the benefit of the region’s future,” Senator Molan said.
“I am looking forward to seeing future areas being released for ultra-fast speed upgrades in the coming months and seeing the community take advantage of these ultra-fast speeds made available to them.”
Minister for Finance, Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham, said NBN Co are continuing to meet the changing needs of Australians through these network upgrades.
“Over the last two years the expectations in the community and their reliance on the NBN have changed significantly. In response, NBN Co is pushing more fibre deeper into its network to bring ultra-fast speeds to meet these expectations,” Minister Birmingham said.
“These upgrades will allow 8 million homes, or 75% of premises in the fixed line footprint to have access to ultra-fast speeds by 2023.”
Eligible customers will be able to place orders with participating retailers.
NBN Co will make further announcements throughout the year as it completes the design and construction of its Local Fibre Network upgrades in suburbs and towns across Australia.
